The AREDS and AREDS2 studies showed that taking a supplement with a precise formula of select vitamins and minerals can help reduce the risk of progression in people with moderate to advanced AMD. The latest study replaced beta-carotene with lutein and zeaxanthin. PreserVision AREDS 2 formula contains the updated formula now recommended by the National Eye Institute. Can a daily multivitamin alone provide the same vision benefits as an AREDS 2 formulation? Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a disease associated with aging that gradually destroys sharp, central vision. In some cases, AMD advances so slowly that people notice little change in their vision.
